It's Our 12th Birthday!

3/28/2024

Thanks to the Corning community, I-Jobs grant and various smaller grants who gave generously and believed in our restoration in 2011-12. Part of the I-Jobs grant guidelines were to have an event within 18 months of receiving the money or forfeit the grant dollars. Bravely on April 5 & 6, with no theatrical lighting or sound system installed, we forged ahead with the Ron Cooley Trio featuring Jeff Millhollin. The trio made up of Mannheim Steamroller musicians and Jeff’s original songs gave a magnificent performance! Volunteers worked tirelessly to open on time with wine, hor’doeuvres, and ribbon cutting for the two sold-out performances! June of 2012 we officially opened with performances by Christopher the Conquered and Elizabeth Aarynn followed by the premiere of the movie The Last Ride about Hank Williams. The dream was BIG! And we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.

Four Lessons from the Birds

3/7/2024

I love to watch the birds at our bird feeder and koi pond. I have learned some valuable lessons! This frigid morning there were juncos and cardinals eating off the ground, chickadees on the bird feeder, blue birds on the waterfall, and yellow shafted flicker on the pond ice, all getting along even though they are different! Lessons I’ve learned:

  1. When the birds are on the feeder or ground their wings are tucked in, protecting their small bodies. But then they spread their wings to soar. I can choose to stay on the ground or bravely spread my wings and rise to new heights!
