Planting a Garden

6/9/2022

  1. Decide what you’d like to plant. I learned early on if you won’t eat a vegetable, don’t grow it in your garden! The same holds true for a director choosing a musical/play, direct what you like!
  2. Choose a location.  My garden was too far away, so I neglected to weed & water it! A garden needs a perfect location: easy access for picking, watering, & caring for your plants. The same is true of a musical, the director picks a place that is easily accessible & provides the necessary items (sound equipment, costumes, props, lights, set) to nurture growing young actors.

Big Dream

3/3/2022

The 1896 Corning fire destroyed the bank that was located at 800 Davis Avenue. The limestone basement walls stood as a reminder of what was, until 1900 when FC Reese stepped in with a Big Dream to purchase it. After finding investors for $50 a share, meeting with city council members, the current building was built in 1902 for $15,000. The Corning Opera House opened in September. The Gauthier family’s Big Dream opened the Adams County Free Press in this building in 1935. Next came the Dan Field family’s free press Big Dream about 1980. In 2000, the Corning Opera House non-profit had a Big Dream which culminated in the restoration in 2012.

During the California gold rush of 1849, people were hoping to strike it rich! They went into the mountains, started digging, hoping to find gold in ‘dem hills! Those without maps, studied the land and followed rivers, hoping. But if you had a plan, a process, a map, some ingenuity, discipline, and commitment you could reap the benefits of your labors
